Latch

A ClearSpace alternative you pay for once

ClearSpace asks you to take a breath before a distracting app opens, then lets you go ahead or opt out. It adds limits, schedules, challenges and accountability partners on a Premium subscription. Latch keeps your apps locked until you scan a key you keep somewhere else, and Latch Pro is $9.99 once.

We make Latch, so read this with that in mind. ClearSpace details come from its App Store listing and getclearspace.com, checked October 2026, and link to their sources.

Our verdict

Latch is the firmer lock, with no subscription and no account

ClearSpace is built around mindful moments and social features like accountability partners. Latch puts the way back in somewhere you have to walk to, costs $9.99 once against $44.99 a year for ClearSpace Premium, and doesn't need an account. ClearSpace is the better pick if you want a friend to keep you accountable, or a Chrome extension.

What ClearSpace does well

ClearSpace treats screen time as something you work on with other people. You can add accountability partners, take on screen time challenges and keep streaks, alongside app limits, session limits for social media and schedules. The pause before an app opens is gentle, and its App Store rating is 4.7 from about 8,900 ratings. It's on iPhone and Android, with a Chrome extension for your computer.

Where Latch is different

The way out is physical

A deep breath happens on the phone, with the app a tap away. Latch moves the way back in to another room. Your key is on the fridge, in the car or at your desk, and the walk there is usually enough to change your mind.

The key can be a few-cent NFC sticker, a QR code you print, or a number of steps between 500 and 20,000. If you'd like it ready to go, the Latch Key Kit is three stickers and three QR keys for $7.99.

You pay once

ClearSpace Premium is $44.99 a year. Latch Pro is $9.99 once, and the free version covers one key, three profiles and two places.

No account

Latch has no sign-up, no ads and no analytics. On iPhone, your app choices stay in Apple's Screen Time on the device.

It locks when your day changes

Latch can lock when you arrive at a place, while you're driving, or from Siri and Google Assistant.

What you'd give up

Latch doesn't have accountability partners or challenges, and it has no browser extension. If doing it with friends is what keeps you going, ClearSpace is built for that.
