Latch

A Jomo alternative that also works on Android

Jomo is a flexible blocker for iPhone and Mac with rules, strict mode and unlock tasks. Latch is built around one idea: your apps stay locked until you scan a key you keep somewhere else, on iPhone, iPad or Android. Latch Pro is $9.99 once.

We make Latch, so read this with that in mind. Jomo details come from its App Store listing and jomo.so, checked October 2026, and link to their sources.

Our verdict

Pick Latch if you're on Android, or you want a key in another room

Jomo gives you a lot of ways to set up a block, and it covers your Mac. Latch makes the way back in physical: a sticker on the fridge, a printed QR code at your desk, or a walk. It runs on Android as well as iPhone and iPad, and costs $9.99 once against $29.99 a year for Jomo Plus.

What Jomo does well

Jomo gives you choices. A rule can block apps at set times, after a time limit, or until you do something, and you decide how hard it is to undo: quick to unblock if you want to scroll on purpose, or locked so it can't be turned off. Its site shows tasks like walking 5,000 steps as a way to earn the apps back. It also has a Mac app, and an App Store rating of 4.8.

Where Latch is different

It works on Android

Jomo's site lists iPhone, iPad and Mac. Latch runs on iPhone and iPad (iOS 17 and later) and on Android 9 and later. One key can unlock every phone you own, and you can share a key with the people you live with.

The key is something you can touch

Latch's main key is physical: an NFC sticker or a printed QR code kept where you'd have to get up for it. A steps key, from 500 to 20,000 steps, is there for days when the sticker is at home and you're not.

The key can be a few-cent NFC sticker, a QR code you print, or a number of steps between 500 and 20,000. If you'd like it ready to go, the Latch Key Kit is three stickers and three QR keys for $7.99.

You pay once

Latch Pro is $9.99 and doesn't renew. Jomo Plus is $29.99 a year, or a one-time lifetime price that's several times more than Latch Pro.

It locks when your day changes

Latch can lock when you arrive at a place, while you're driving, or from Siri and Google Assistant.

What you'd give up

Latch has no Mac app, and it has fewer kinds of rule than Jomo. If you want a different unlock task for each app, or you want to block your Mac, Jomo does more.

Which should you choose?

Choose Jomo if

  • you want to block your Mac too
  • you want many kinds of rules and unlock tasks
  • you're fine with a subscription

Choose Latch if

  • you're on Android, or have both
  • you want a key on the fridge or at your desk
  • you'd rather pay $9.99 once
  • you want locking by place or while driving
